Hot pants

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Shoes, Madeline via The Bay; tights, Secret; romper, Urban Outfitters; sheer shrug, H&M; belt, gold bracelet, orange and blue necklaces, vintage; icy blue bracelet, gift; gold-plate necklace, Smart Set; earrings, Forever 21.

My mom loves to call these hot pants, but I don’t think they quite stray into that territory. When I think hot pants, I think super-short, tight, leather/pleather abominations. You? Anyway, I bought this romper last September on sale, and was never happier to have finally found such a onesie as this! I had been coveting rompers for quite a while, but hadn’t found one that I liked and that was in my price range (right now I am on a similar hunt for a one-piece black catsuit-type ensemble, similar to what Carrie wears at her engagement party in the Sex and the City movie – anyone know where I can get one?). Back to the romper: voila this fabulous find, a bright print complete with a zipper up the front and everything! After said purchase, I described it to one of my friends, (oh, hell, Susie, it was you!) and she was pretty horrified and thought what I had just bought sounded pretty hideous. Naysayer! Heresy!

I was inspired to put together a brink of winter/spring outfit after reading Tieka’s post at Selective Potential. She is wearing a romper from Urban Outfitters, too, and is making it work (quite well!) in the snow. Besides today (its second wearing), I have worn my romper during inappropriate weather once before, but with rather less, ahem, concealed. The picture below is of me on my way to a  friend’s bachelorette party last September. September, shmepbember – I was wearing this thing, come frostbite or hypothermia. (Brave words for someone who ended up waiting in line at a bar, with her jacket wrapped as tightly around herself as possible while getting neck and shoulders cramps from hunching up her body to the maximum to help conserve warmth and block the pre-winter winds. I’m just saying.)

I obviously think my gold belt is the way to go with this romper, but what do you think? Which outfit styling do you like more? Or, do you prefer the look below (eww), the total au naturelle look of someone who, today, just came home from a five-kilometre run, her first in over almost two months? Hack and wheeze!!
